About ImmutaLog
ImmutaLog turns your iPad into a tamper-evident logbook — the kind of permanent, verifiable record useful for upholding academic integrity standards and protecting your original research, yet robust enough for professional audits, patent filings, and industrial quality control. Anything you write or append is permanent. No erasing, no undoing. Just like a physical lab book, every entry stands as written. Regular backups to iCloud mean that your logbooks can always be recovered in case of data loss. Seal pages with a red-ink signature when your work is complete. ImmutaLog computes a cryptographic hash of every sealed page so any future alteration outside the app — however small — is detectable. Peers and Reviewers can further provide feedback and countersign your pages. The app is privacy-focused, with no information or data leaving your device until you choose to. Export your notebook as a PDF and share a professionally formatted document with a built-in certificate page. The certificate includes per-page SHA-256 hashes and a P256 digital signature tied to your iCloud Keychain. A verification tool is available at https://www.immutalog.com/verify.html so anyone in receipt of your exported documents can independently confirm their authenticity on any computer. Data safety: ImmutaLog stores your logbooks in iCloud, but your signed PDF exports are the only format that can be verified independently of this app. Export each logbook regularly and keep copies outside the app. The developer accepts no liability for data loss due to device failure, account issues, or accidental deletion.
What’s new
Version v1.4.0 · Updated October 21, 2026
Amend a locked page, the way you would on paper. Correct or add to a sealed page in red ink. The original stays readable underneath, and each amendment carries your reason, your initials and the time, sealed as its own record. For a late entry, mark the page in red and continue below your last entry or on a new page; the two pages point to each other. Peer feedback. A colleague who witnesses your pages can now write comments in purple before countersigning, just as a reviewer does in green. Their comments are sealed with their signature. Links and contents. Link one page to another and jump between them. Underline a heading and date it, and ImmutaLog builds a contents page for your logbook and its PDF (Beta). Unused space ruled off. Locking a page crosses out the space below your last entry, as good lab practice requires, and seals it with the page. Turn it off in Settings if you prefer. A guided tour shows new users around their first logbook, and you can replay it from Help. PDF export options and many fixes for speed and reliability. Backups made with 1.4 need ImmutaLog 1.4 or later.
