About SpiceCore
SpiceCore is a generative synthesizer for iPad. A polyphonic analogue-style engine (dual morphing oscillators, a dual filter with four modes and parallel routing, OSC-FM and ring modulation) with the warmth, drift, and character of the real thing. What makes SpiceCore different is its generative engine, with three ways to play: a 32-step sequencer with Euclidean rhythms, Markov evolution, and bounded mutation; a Motion Arp; and Harmonic Mode. Four macros (Mutation, Density, Chaos, Memory) put generative behaviour at your fingertips, with their own values per generator. MIDI OUT FOR YOUR RIG Each generator leaves on its own MIDI channel: sequencer, Motion Arp, and Harmonic chords, one voice each, into a hardware synth or a multi-channel MIDI-to-CV interface. In standalone, pick a USB, network, or Bluetooth MIDI port and SpiceCore becomes the generative brain of your rig. MIXER & EFFECTS A level knob plus delay and reverb sends for each part (sequencer, arp, Harmonic, keys), feeding a tempo-synced delay and a plate-style reverb. DLY Age turns the echo towards worn tape; RVB Grain gives the plate its metal and shimmer. At zero, both are clean. THE CONDUCTOR Switch it on and the performance breathes: macros lean, parts swell and recede, the space opens and closes over minutes, seeded so the same performance returns every time. SOUND PALETTE Load up to four sounds and one pattern plays them all, spread along a tempo-synced morph: stepped, blended, or stacked, while the ribbon shows what is playing. HARMONIC MODE One key picks a chord and SpiceCore voices it: three layouts, six chord colours, four voicing styles, and a motion engine for strum, pulse, arp, and evolving figures. It plays over the sequencer or arp, and the chord you hold leads them. SOUND LAYERS AND SOURCE MIX Each generator can carry its own sound and its own level: give the sequencer, arp, or Harmonic part a voice of its own while the pattern stays shared. Standalone with on-screen keyboard, or AUv3 instrument inside Logic Pro for iPad and other hosts. SYNTHESIS • Dual morphing oscillators (Shape) with Contour, sub, noise • OSC-FM phase modulation (OSC 1 → OSC 2) and ring modulation • Dual multimode filter (LP/BP/HP/Notch), series or parallel, with drive, saturation, key tracking • Two ADSR envelopes; two LFOs • Poly / mono / unison with glide; 8 to 32 voices MODULATION MATRIX • 2 mod slots per destination via radial long-press picker • 11 sources × 29 destinations including Shape, Contour, FM, Ring GENERATIVE ENGINE • 32-step sequencer (pitch, gate, velocity, probability, repeat) • Motion Arp: 5 modes, 8 motifs, 6 action pads • 20 chord progressions with clocked chord length; degree-mode voicing • Groove Curves: 9 velocity-shaping curves with Accent depth • Cycles: independent per-parameter loop lengths • Play Notes: record steps directly from the keyboard • Performance freeze: latched chords and locked arp pools saved in presets • Internal tempo with tap; host sync, MIDI Clock, latch, swing PERFORMANCE • On-screen keyboard, 25 to 88 keys • MIDI out per generator; standalone MIDI port • MIDI Learn with savable profiles • MIDI capture: export the last bars as a multi-track MIDI file • Pitch bend, mod wheel, aftertouch, sustain • Factory bank across 11 categories; free Classic v1 pack on the website • User presets with categories, shared across standalone and AUv3 • Import .slpreset and .slsndpack from Files HARDWARE CONTROL • Novation Launch Control XL 3 in the standalone app: controls assigned, names on its screen, lights that show what is playing AUv3 PLUGIN • Instrument in Logic Pro for iPad and other AUv3 hosts • Full parameter automation; host transport and tempo sync • Complete state save and restore Novation and Launch Control are trademarks of their respective owners; SpiceCore is not affiliated with Novation.
What’s new
Version 2.4.0 · Updated October 18, 2026
SpiceCore 2.4.0 adds support for the Novation Launch Control XL 3 and the six-preset Sheffield Pack, and fixes the second oscillator and the modulation routes. • LAUNCH CONTROL XL 3. Connect the XL 3 to the iPad and the standalone app assigns its controls: macros and mix on the faders; filter, effects and the current generator's controls on the knobs; generators, mutes, Latch and the Conductor on the buttons; Harmonic chords on the pads. Its screen names each control as you touch it, and its lights show what is playing. There is no mapping to set up. Standalone app only. • HOLD TO CONFIRM. On the XL 3, switching generator, loading a preset and Rescue (reloading the current preset) happen only on a hold, after the screen has named the action; a tap only shows what a hold would do. Presses from a palm across the buttons are ignored. • SHEFFIELD PACK. Six new presets: Don Current walks the chord you hold in a Pendulum arp; Kelham Teeth loops its accents and note lengths against the bar; Bleep Yard is a bass line that follows your chords; Open Circuit plays a soft FM tine on an arp motif; Mesters Touch sets warm chords over a quiet line; After Shift opens slowly with the Conductor. Sheffield Steel Mode, in the Demo menu, plays the pack for you. • OSC2 ON EVERY NOTE. In 2.3.0 the second oscillator stayed silent on many notes unless FM or Ring was on. It now sounds on every note, so presets that use it may sound fuller or brighter than in 2.3.0. • MODULATION ROUTES. All 29 modulation destinations now move the sound, LFO rate and depth and the eight envelope settings included, and the envelopes follow their routes while a note plays. Resonance modulation runs smoothly, without dropouts. • TIMING AND NOTES. The Arp's fixed rhythm accents the beat, a step edit is heard in the cycle you make it, and host count-ins and loops land on the grid, with each pass of a loop generated afresh. Switching between the sequencer and the Arp releases the outgoing note, MIDI Out included, while a held Harmonic chord plays on.
