Tell us your location, and we'll do the rest. DeepSpace Pilot pulls in real-time weather conditions and local light pollution data to give every celestial object a personalized difficulty rating. No more guessing whether that galaxy is actually visible from your backyard, or realizing too late that cloud cover ruined your session. What you can do with DeepSpace Pilot: Browse a curated catalog of celestial objects: nebulae, galaxies, star clusters, planets, and more. Get a personalized difficulty rating for each object based on your exact location, tonight's weather, and local light pollution Plan your sessions around what's actually observable, not just what looks good on paper Discover new objects at your skill level, whether you're just starting out or chasing deep-sky challenges The night sky is for everyone. DeepSpace Pilot makes sure you spend less time frustrated and more time looking up.
What’s new
Version 1.3 · Updated October 21, 2026
Favorites & Notes - Star any object to add it to your Favorites, whether you’ve seen it yet or not - Add your own notes to any object, such as equipment, conditions or what you saw. Notes save as you type. A Better Logbook - New Favorites section, with an All / Seen / Favorites filter - Tap any object in your logbook to open its full page - Touch and hold an object for a quick preview with its photo, current position, notes and shortcuts Moon Phase - Tap the moon in Current Conditions to see the phase, how much of the moon is lit, and how many days until the next new and full moon - Fixed the moon sometimes showing the wrong phase, such as a full moon labeled as a crescent Know When It’s Dark - “Best for Tonight” is now “Best Right Now”, since rankings reflect the sky at this moment - A banner lets you know when the sun is up or it’s still twilight, and when it will be fully dark at your location - Current Conditions now accounts for daylight instead of rating a sunny afternoon as “Excellent” - The list now updates itself every few minutes and whenever you return to the app Polish - Object photos now show a loading animation and fade in when ready - Clear-sky icons show a moon and stars at night instead of a sun
