About The Game of Royal Ur
Play the Royal Game of Ur — the world's oldest known board game, dating back 4,500 years to ancient Mesopotamia. Discovered in the Royal Cemetery at Ur in modern-day Iraq, this timeless game of strategy and chance has been beautifully reimagined for your iPhone. Challenge the gods of the Mesopotamian pantheon, each with their own unique playing style and personality. Outsmart the cunning Enki, stand firm against the fierce Ishtar, or test your luck against Shamash. Every god plays differently — learn their tendencies and adapt your strategy to prevail. Play your way: * Challenge AI opponents inspired by Mesopotamian mythology * Play online against friends or anyone worldwide via Game Center * Pass & Play with someone next to you on the same device * Learn the ancient rules with an interactive tutorial Crafted with care: * Wood-carved aesthetic inspired by the original board in the British Museum * Original ambient soundtrack with multiple tracks * Detailed statistics tracking your wins, captures, streaks, and more * Works fully offline for single-player games The Royal Game of Ur is one of humanity's earliest board games. Simple to learn, endlessly strategic. Your move.

What’s new
Version 1.3.4 · Updated October 14, 2026
Version 1.3.4 makes live online games smoother and gives you more ways to play with friends. • Smoother live games: when you're both in the game, your opponent's moves now play out once, cleanly, with no pieces jumping back and forth • Play more than one game at a time with the same friend. Tap them in the invite list and choose "Start another game" • When you have several games with the same person, the home screen shows each game's move count and start date so you can tell them apart • Achievements and leaderboards now have their own spot in the main menu, replacing the floating Game Center button • Your opponent's emoji now appears after their turn has played out, and no longer covers their name • Watching your opponent's winning move no longer shows the results screen early • Fixed the Replay button undoing your own move after landing on a rosette • Lots of other fixes. Thanks for the feedback!
