About Sól: Golden Hour, Fog & Tides
Sól is a weather app designed specifically for photographers. It shows light (Golden Hour, Civil Twilight, Blue Hour, Nautical Twilight, Astronomical Twilight), weather, fog and tides in a single scrollable timeline, and sun and moon positions on a 3D map. Weather, fog and tide data comes from multiple sources (WeatherKit, Open-Meteo, WorldTides, Stormglass) for maximum accuracy, and is presented in a simple, intuitive way for people who don’t want to fuss with complex charts, tables and fiddly controls. And for those who do, the details are just a tap away. Set up alerts for the conditions you want, and get notified so you can plan those shoots. Fog probability, tides and alerts are part of Sól Pro, available as a monthly or yearly subscription. Everything else in Sól is free. What’s new
Version 1.9 · Updated October 13, 2026
Widgets for your Home Screen and Lock Screen: the next golden or blue hour at a spot, and when the ridge takes the sun or gives it back; tonight and the next dawn side by side; a week of dawns and dusks; and, with Pro, fog and where your alert conditions line up next. On iOS 27 there’s also Light Page, the app’s main screen as a full-page widget. Fog that knows the terrain: chances now account for where each spot sits, from summits in cloud to valley floors and the coast. They’re also calibrated against real fog reports, so 30% means fog about 3 times in 10. Expect lower numbers than before at most spots: 40% now counts as a high chance, and your fog alerts follow the new bands. Made for iPhone Duo: Sól runs edge to edge on both displays and rearranges itself around the fold. If the forecast changes and an alert’s conditions no longer line up, the alert is withdrawn and shown as “No longer expected” in the app.
