The Bourne End Academy App is an innovation that marries Safeguarding with everyday school communication in one easy to reach place. It provides contemporary online safety guidance, novel school communication tools, and relevant safeguarding resources. It ensures that age-appropriate support and signposting to help is readily available in the pockets of users across the school community, when and where they need it, as well as providing users with easy access to absence reporting tools and guidance, school contact details and the most up to date news. HOW IT WORKS? App users are categorised into ‘roles’ depending on their position within the school community e.g., Safeguarding Lead, Staff, Parents & Carers or Students. Each user role is provided with a unique QR, and four-digit entry code supplied by their school (upon the school’s registration) to gain access to the App. These entry codes will ensure age and role appropriate content for every audience. *Note that adult users will be asked to create an account first. ONLINE SAFETY GUIDANCE AND RESOURCES - The App contains extensive age-appropriate guidance, resources, and advice on a wide variety of topics that include health & wellbeing, social media, and gaming. Each topic includes quick quizzes and digital tests to evidence and further reaffirm learning. - For school staff, CPD certified training courses are available to take directly within the App. Topics include Safeguarding Level 1, Mental Health Awareness, and Appropriate Use of Social Media. - Teachers receive access to the Teach Hub, a dedicated library of downloadable resources, created by teachers for teachers for use in the school curriculum. - Parents and Carers receive access to a number of shareable resources and online safety guidance content on a number of key topic areas. - All users have direct access to the ‘Safety Centre’ through their App or on desktop browser that explains how to set parental controls, block, mute, report, and much more, all divided by popular platforms and operating systems. OTHER KEY FEATURES The School will have the ability to send notifications to users, craft, and curate their own digital news, and segment users for more bespoke communications like important announcements or information on events. Reporting tools are also available for users to report safeguarding concerns 24/7 to a dedicated professional email inbox*. These can also be completed anonymously. Reporting an absence* is also exclusively available to parents and carers providing them with an effective, time-saving solution to inform the school of their child’s absence, alongside access to healthcare guidelines for what action should be taken in terms of school absence depending on the medical problem. Interactive Directories allow users immediate access to contact details for relevant staff members or advice organisations.* *: the school may choose to disable these features.
