About Walking Tracker: Footnotes
Footnotes is your walking journal. Every walk is quietly tracked (route, steps, distance, weather) and every thought along the way is saved: voice notes transcribed to text, photos pinned to the exact spot, short written notes. One-time purchase, no subscription. Private by design. Start a walk from the Home Screen widget, keep an eye on it in the Live Activity, and add a note without unlocking your phone. Later, export any walk as a Markdown page with its GPX route, ready for your notes app or your maps. Not sure yet? Open the sample walk and see what a finished walk looks like before you take your first one. Unlike fitness apps, Footnotes avoids cluttered metrics, calorie counts, or competitive goals. It's not about performance or social validation, it's about reflection, presence, and the simple pleasure of walking. A one-time purchase, not another subscription. For the price of a coffee, you get lifetime access to Footnotes, including all future updates and features. No recurring fees. No hidden plans. Your walks and thoughts belong to you, and so does the app. Privacy first. Always. Your routes, notes, and photos never leave your iPhone and your own iCloud. There is no account, no login, and no Footnotes server holding your memories. Sync between devices happens privately through iCloud, only if you want it. Your feedback truly matters, so please consider leaving a rating or sharing suggestions for future updates. We'd love to hear from you! Footnotes is your walking diary: a companion for mindful walking and reflective thinking, where steps meet thoughts.
What’s new
Version 3.40.0 · Updated September 18, 2026
This release brings new ways to experience Footnotes and several improvements to your walks. You can now explore a Demo Walk to see what a walk in Footnotes looks like before recording your first one. We’ve also added a new Widget and a Live Activity, so you can keep track of an active walk right from your Lock Screen. Live Tracking has been improved with a new map view that lets you watch your route take shape as you walk, along with several UI improvements to make the experience clearer and smoother. Photos are getting better too. You can now swipe through photos from a walk, add existing photos from your photo library, and save photos taken with Footnotes directly to your device. Your feedback helps make Footnotes better every day. If you have suggestions or run into any issues, you can share them through Settings > Got Feedback? And if you’re enjoying Footnotes, leaving a review on the App Store really helps more people discover the app. Happy walking!
