About CarbonCruise
CarbonCruise allows you to collect high-quality tree data under the forest canopy using your iPhone. This app replaces manual fieldwork methods with a digital workflow, allowing you to easily capture tree diameter, height, carbon, location, and species, no additional tools required. At this time, CarbonCruise supports plot data collection for a 400m^2 fixed radius plot. Key features: • Digital Fieldwork: Replace manual tools with your mobile device to collect plot data faster. • LiDAR Measurement: Easily measure tree diameter and height using the iPhone’s built-in LiDAR scanner and/or camera. • Offline Capability: Work offline in remote areas and save data directly to your device. Sync to the cloud when you are back online for further reporting and analysis. • Custom Notes: Log specific details and field conditions for any tree or plot. • Quick Measure: Determine the diameter or height of a tree in seconds if you want a quick analysis without performing full plot data collection. How it works: • Create a Plot: Enter your plot’s name and location. The app will generate a map showing your position within the boundaries of the 400m2 fixed radius plot. • Measure: Choose a tree and use the on-screen guides to capture its diameter and height. • Add Details: Input species information and any additional notes about the tree or plot. • Sync & Analyze: Once your plot is complete, sync the data to the cloud for reporting and further analysis. What’s new
Version 2.5 · Updated October 30, 2026
• Added a new tree DBH measurement mode to allow users to manually input a known DBH value. On LiDAR devices, the “Auto” mode now defaults to using LiDAR, with the option for users to switch over to “AI Auto” mode in the DBH settings menu. • Users can now add more trees to a completed, non-uploaded plot by navigating to the Plot Summary screen for the specific plot and tapping the “Resume Plot” button. • Added plot basal area in m2 and m2/ha to the Plot Summary and Plot Complete screens. • Updated default plot names to use a clearer format (YYYY-MM-DD Plot #) for better organization. • The user guide is now available offline on the mobile app, so users can reference it anywhere.
