...Mit rund 4.000 Mitgliedern ist die Deutsche Gesellschaft für Schmerzmedizin e.V. (DGS) die größte Gesellschaft praktisch tätiger Schmerztherapeuten in Europa. Seit der Gründung im Jahr 1984 setzt sich die medizinische Fachgesellschaft für eine bessere Versorgung von Patienten mit chronischen Schmerzen ein. Dies will sie vor allem über zwei Wege erreichen: Zum einen über ein besseres Verständnis für die (Not-)Situation von Schmerzpatienten in der Fachwelt, bei Kostenträgern, politischen Entscheidern und in der Bevölkerung. Zum anderen über eine bessere Diagnostik des chronischen Schmerzes und eine bessere Behandlung für die Betroffenen.
