About Photo Awards Guide by PhMuseum
Around €1 million in photography funding listed every year, in one place: a curated list of open calls, prizes, residencies and awards from around the world. Set a reminder on any deadline and we'll tell you in good time, so you never hear about a call the week after it closed. It is also the shortest route to PhMuseum's own open calls: the Photography Grant, the Women Photographers Grant and the Photobook Award, running since 2012. KEY FEATURES - A curated list of open calls worldwide, updated as new ones open and closed ones fall away, adding up to around €1 million in photography funding listed every year. - Everything you need to decide: deadline, entry fee, image gallery, and who is behind the call. Share the ones worth passing on. - Deadline reminders that arrive early enough to prepare a submission, not the night before. - A weekly word when new calls are added, and nothing when they are not. - PhMuseum's own work alongside: the grants programme, education courses, the PhMuseum Days festival and our editorial projects. ABOUT PHMUSEUM PhMuseum is a curated independent platform sharing visual language and its culture. Since 2012 we have looked for diverse ways to display photography, to educate, and to connect a growing community. Our mission is to discover, support and promote photographers, working as an innovative talent incubator. GRANTS Our Grants Programme has recognised more than 900 artists with €220,000 in cash prizes, alongside educational activities, residencies, exhibitions and screenings at international festivals including Getxophoto, PhEST, Fotofestiwal, Organ Vida, Cortona On The Move, Lagos Photo, Verzasca Foto, and our own PhMuseum Days. Former prize recipients include Max Pinckers, Bieke Depoorter, Alejandro Cartagena, Jacob Aue Sobol, Salvatore Vitale, Laura El-Tantawy, Diana Markosian, Alejandro Chaskielberg, Poulomi Basu, Miraj Patel, Rodrigo Pinheiro, Gal Cipreste Marinelli, Tara Laure Claire, Nikita Teryoshin and Thomas Van Houtryve, among many others. EDUCATION Since 2020, our Education Programme has accompanied emerging generations of photographers in the development of their practice: year-round individual tutoring, plus a growing list of long-term online masterclasses led by international experts such as Elisa Medde, Lewis Chaplin, Laura El-Tantawy, Max Pinckers, Salvatore Vitale, Nicolas Polli and Erik Kessels. PHMUSEUM LAB In 2020 we opened PhMuseum Lab in Bologna, Italy, a bridge between our online community and physical activities. In this multi-purpose space we present around three curated exhibitions a year, developed in close dialogue with artists, and you can join us for book presentations, talks, workshops and parties. PHMUSEUM DAYS Born in the late summer of 2021, PhMuseum Days is our International Photography Festival in Bologna, Italy, a moment to enjoy photography in person and meet the people behind it. Each year we take on a theme that challenges conventional ways of curating photography, working closely with artists while experimenting with structures, materials and design. Through exhibitions in historical and industrial locations, talks, public activities and a photobook area, the festival is a space to share contemporary practice with the public and start a conversation. What’s new
Version 2.2.0 · Updated September 19, 2026
Housekeeping, mostly. - Links that open phmuseum.com from the app now carry a tag the app applies itself, rather than one that arrived with the listing, so a visit that starts here can be told apart from one that starts on the web. - An award's own site is left exactly as it is. We don't add anything to another organisation's address, nothing new is recorded about you, and a link you share with someone else is never tagged. Nothing has moved, so everything is where you left it. Around €1 million in photography funding listed every year. PhMuseum has been supporting photographers since 2012 — explore our grants, courses, festival and editorial projects from inside the app.
