About PiP & Background Video/iPlayer
Overview iPlayer lets you import videos from your camera roll and play them in Picture in Picture or in the background while you use other apps. It was born from real requests: "I want to keep watching while I do something else" and "I just want to listen to the audio with the screen off." Great for: - Anyone who wants to chat or browse other apps while a video plays - Anyone who wants to listen to audio with the screen off - Anyone who wants videos organized into folders - Anyone who wants to save a video by simply pasting its URL Features - Picture in Picture playback - Background audio playback (with lock screen controls) - Import videos from the camera roll and organize them into folders - Paste a URL to download and save a video - Cross-folder playback queue (playlist) and per-video notes - Adjustable playback speed (0.3x-2x) - One-tap 90-degree screen rotation - Passcode lock - Dark mode support We're keeping iPlayer simple while continuing to add small features that make watching videos alongside other apps more comfortable.

What’s new
Version 2.1 · Updated September 9, 2026
- Added a playback queue (playlist) that lets you continue playing videos across folders, along with a per-video notes feature. - Added a setting to choose the on-screen layout when rotating video playback ("full screen" or "bar visible"). - Fixed an issue where, with "Background behavior" set to "background audio," playback would stop when switching to another app or locking the screen. - Added lock screen support for the seek bar, next/previous video switching, and thumbnail display during background audio playback. - Fixed sluggish screen transitions right after unlocking with a passcode. - Added a "make visible in the Files app" setting (independent of the passcode setting). - Improved shuffle playback so it's less likely to immediately repeat the video that just played. - Fixed several crashes that could occur while reordering the folder list, among other operations.
