About FaceSensor

FaceSensor is an entertaining way to use haptics to provide information to a blind user of the presence of another person as viewed by the iPhone camera. It does this gently and quietly by way of tactile sensations. These sensations will vary depending on the distance to the observed individual. Farther distances result in fainter signals and closer distances result in stronger signals. Left, center, and right sectors are also differentiated by varying haptic patterns. It is the discreet way to be aware of someone nearby. The Apple Watch can also be used with FaceSensor for reinforced sector information. FaceSensor is for stationary use only.

What’s new

Version 1.0.1 · Updated October 8, 2026

FaceSensor® works properly again on current iPhones, and the Apple Watch app runs again. On iPhone, FaceSensor is still silent. The double and triple clicks for left and right are distinct again, and each click reports where the face is now. The Apple Watch app has been rebuilt for current watchOS. It taps your wrist and pulses the FaceSensor logo with each reading. iPad cannot vibrate, so on iPad the clicks are played as sound. Point the back camera toward the person you want to sense. One click means in front, two means left and three means right, and the clicks get louder as the person comes closer.
