About SimplyMap GIS
SimplyMapGIS — Complete GIS Toolkit for Forestry, Terrain & Rural Infrastructure
SimplyMapGIS is a free, browser-based GIS built for foresters, engineers, and land-management professionals who need serious spatial analysis without desktop GIS software's cost or complexity. Everything runs in your browser or through the Android app — no installation, no license fees. Upload a boundary, pick a tool, get a usable result in minutes.
Bring in your data, in whatever format it's already in
Upload KML, Shapefiles (.zip), or GeoTIFF rasters directly. Convert between KML/KMZ, Shapefile, GeoJSON, GPX, GeoPackage, CSV, and Excel — including turning a coordinate spreadsheet into real point geometry, or exporting layers back to a formatted spreadsheet. Pull satellite imagery (Sentinel-2, Landsat 8/9), elevation data (SRTM/Copernicus/ALOS), and global soil data straight from the app.
Organize and share your layers with Atlases
Group layers into named, collapsible Atlases to stay organized, or open a colleague's shared link as a labeled group that never disturbs your own layers.
A full vector and raster processing suite
Buffer, Clip, Minus, Merge (2+ layers), Intersection, Count Features, and Point in Polygon Analysis, which tags every point with the polygon it falls inside. Plus a Grid Generator for field surveys, GPS point extraction, Proximity/Distance Analysis, and Live GPS Tracking to record your walked or driven path. On the raster side: reclassification, raster algebra, clipping, and raster-to-vector conversion.
Terrain and watershed analysis
Slope, aspect, hillshade, ruggedness, elevation profiles, 8-class landform classification, and solar radiation index. For hydrology: TauDEM-based stream extraction with Strahler ordering, TWI, SPI, curvature analysis, catchment delineation, bund/pond water-spread modeling, check-dam suitability, and flood inundation simulation. Viewshed Analysis shows exactly what terrain is visible from any point, hills and all.
Purpose-built forestry tools
Compute NDVI, EVI, and SAVI vegetation indices. Classify forest canopy density into FSI's own 4 standard classes. Detect forest cover change — including subtle selective-felling thinning, not just clear-cutting — between any two dates. Score land for waterbody, watchtower, or plantation site suitability. Plan an economical forest road with Ghat Cutting, factoring slope, drainage, and ground hardness, auto-inserting switchbacks where needed.
For fire monitoring: search FSI's current-season fire alerts (down to circle/division/range/block/beat) or its archive back to 2015, plus a live satellite Fire Detection tool from NASA's VIIRS sensors.
Engineering tools for water supply and rural infrastructure
Check whether a pipeline route can rely on gravity flow or needs pumping, auto-plan the cheapest route, or delineate a gravity command area. For construction: cut-and-fill earthwork estimation, building site suitability, culvert/bridge crossing detection, and sub-watershed erosion-risk ranking via a Sediment Yield Index.
Land records and one-click reporting
Madhya Pradesh users get direct khasra (land parcel) lookups against official records. The Site Report PDF tool runs a full suite of terrain, watershed, forestry, and engineering analyses (from the flat map, 3D view, or Swipe Compare) into one multi-page PDF automatically.
SIMA, your built-in guide
Not sure which tool you need? SIMA, the built-in AI assistant, understands the toolset and points you to the right feature, in English or Hindi.
Designed to actually be used
Works on desktop, mobile, and as a native Android app, with light/dark themes and an interface built for real field conditions. The app opens shared Atlas links and GIS files directly, and keeps Live GPS Tracking running with the screen off.
Whether you're managing a forest division, planning rural water infrastructure, or just need to understand the terrain in front of you — SimplyMapGIS puts professional GIS analysis within reach.
