Barangoló

Barangoló is a hiking map for the Carpathian Basin that works with no signal at all. Download the area you are heading to while you are still at home, and on the trail the map, your position and search all work with the radio off.

MARKED TRAILS, DRAWN PROPERLY
• Every painted waymark — stripe, cross, triangle, circle, square and the rest — has its own line style and colour, so the map reads the way the trees do
• A legend explains each marking shape, colour and named route, and it works offline too
• Contour lines and hillshading, with peaks, saddles, springs, huts, lookout towers, shelters and caves
• Turn the map with the compass, and switch layers on or off in Map layers

PLACES TO EAT, SLEEP AND SET OFF FROM
• Restaurants, pubs and cafés, hotels, guesthouses and campsites, stations, bus stops and car parks, castles, ruins and museums
• Tap a place for its opening hours and whether it is open now, its phone number and website — offline too, from the downloaded area
• Plan a route straight to it

THE WHOLE CARPATHIAN BASIN
• Hungary in eight areas, plus Burgenland, Upper Hungary, Transcarpathia, Transylvania, Vojvodina and the Banat, Slavonia and Zagorje
• Places carry two names: the Hungarian one first, the local official one under it — Brassó / Brașov, Pozsony / Bratislava
• Each area is a download of 50–100 MB. Get one, or all of them at once. Downloads carry on in the background and resume where they stopped

PLAN A WALK, THEN FOLLOW IT
• Tap points on the map and the route follows the waymarked trails between them — worked out on your phone, offline
• Distance, climb, walking time, an elevation profile and the waymarks to follow, in order
• Keep to marked trails or take the shortest way; any leg can cross country in a straight line
• Your routes in one place: rename them, export and import GPX, edit a copy of an imported route
• Follow a route (Trail supporter): the next change of waymark, the distance and climb left and your arrival time — and with the phone in your pocket, an alert when you leave the route

YOUR POSITION, AND NOTHING MORE
• Your location is drawn on the map, and while you follow a route it is watched with the screen off so the app can warn you. It never leaves your phone, and no track is recorded
• Approximate location works too — you get a larger accuracy circle and a map that still works

AND ALSO
• Offline search for towns, villages and peaks in the areas on your phone
• Light and dark theme, in Hungarian and English

FREE, AND THE TRAIL SUPPORTER MEMBERSHIP
The map, every download, search, place cards, route planning, GPX import and export, and up to three saved routes are free. Ads appear on the list screens — never over the map, and never on the first launch.

The Trail supporter membership adds navigation along your route, with the screen off and with a warning when you leave it, unlimited saved routes, and no ads. Monthly or yearly; the yearly plan can start with a 14-day free trial. It renews automatically until you cancel it in your store account, and it works on every device signed in to the same account. A one-off tip switches the ads off on the device it was paid on.
