After removing the oil from the seeds, the remaining pulp is used as animal feed and increases the fat content of the animal's milk. About 20 alkaloids are obtained from the fruit peel.

Poppy cultivation is carried out in Turkey, India, Australia, France, Spain, and Hungary as the primary legal producer under the supervision of the United Nations. In addition, Turkey and India are recognized by the United Nations as traditional poppy producer countries.

Poppy is an annual herbaceous plant that can be planted both in summer and winter. The vegetation period varies between 110-280 days according to summer and winter planting dates. It has a tap root system that goes deep to 30-100 cm. They can grow up to 30-170 cm, depending on their habitat characteristics. The stem and branches of the plant are hairless, smooth, and covered with a gray-green waxy layer. It turns brownish yellow when ripe. Its leaves are hairless and covered with a grayish-green wax layer. According to the color of the seed, they bloom white, violet, and rarely red.
