About Know@Home

Who are we?
We are a team of researchers at Emory University in Atlanta, GA, University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI, University of North Caroline in Chapel Hill, NC and at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevent in Atlanta, GA. The principal investigator is Dr. Patrick Sullivan at Emory University and the Project Officer is Robin McGowan and the CDC. What is this app?
Know@Home is a research project taking place in 11 states across the U.S. This study is evaluating online recruitment approaches as well as health promotion strategies to support HIV testing for Black or African-American and Hispanic or Latino gay and bisexual men. Only men who are enrolled as participants in the study can access the Know@Home app. This app includes information about HIV and STI prevention, treatment, and also includes the option to order home STI testing, condoms, and lubricant for free.
Why do we get personal?
Sometimes the app may ask you some personal questions. These are important questions to ask in order for the app to help you best manage your sexual health. Because this is a research study, we do have access to information that you put into the app, but all of this information is kept confidential. None of the information that you share will be linked to any identifying information you provide. That means your name, email, and phone number are kept separate from the rest of your information. Information you provide may be shared, but only after de-identifying and only through a secure network. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at [email protected].
