About PlayGuessr
American football has long been a game of guesswork. All players and coaches are susceptible to underlying unconscious influences and norms that dictate their behaviors. Such exploitable vulnerabilities have become a cornerstone of football since its origin. By tapping into the unconscious tendencies of opponents, players and coaches can effectively predict the opponent’s next scheme. For a defensive coordinator, the ability to forecast the next offensive play is of great benefit. An accurate prediction allows for choosing more suitable defensive schemes, which in turn will help to halt the opponent’s offensive advance.
However, traditional human-reliant techniques for analyzing play-calling tendencies are neither rigorous nor robust. Coupled with recent surges of professional sports database publications, the new field of sports analytics is the next gold rush for all sports alike. Powered by modern tools of statistical learning, PlayGuessr learns through user provided data to bring play-calling predictions to all levels of football play. Backed by research, PlayGuessr’s novel approach is the next step in the blooming field of football analytics.
