About Totakashi
The farmers of Sirsi Taluk are mainly depending on plantation & spice crops like Pepper, Banana, Nutmeg, Cardamom and other spices etc for their livelihood. These farmers are cultivating paddy for their self-consumption only. As this area falls under Western Ghats, its geography is valley in nature and receives heavy rainfall. Its lands are highly acidic and suitable for plantation crops only.
These plantation crops help them in getting sustainable livelihood and prevent deforestation. Even though farmers are producing good quality materials, they are unable to sell their produce for better prices. There is no proper marketing channel for them. The market opportunities or needs are also changed frequently according to the time.
