Badenoch The Storylands is your pass to discovering all that this spectacular area of the Cairngorms National Park in Scotland has to offer.

Badenoch The Storylands app is the key to unlocking Badenoch’s fascinating heritage sites and hearing many of the local stories and inspiring music. Use the guide to discover the locality by car, or at a more leisurely pace by bike or on foot.

Explore Ruthven Barracks, the most iconic building in the area and discover more about its role in local history.

Learn about local characters such as The Wolf of Badenoch, Cluny of the ‘45, James Macpherson (of Ossian fame) and the Black Officer.

See the past come to life with stunning 3D models of Badenoch’s historic sites, such as the ancient hillforts at Dun da Lamh and Torr Alvie, Raitts Souterrain and the lost township, Easter Delfour Ring Cairn, as well as Ruthven Barracks, home of the Wolf of Badenoch and then more than 300 years later, at the time of the battle of Culloden.

And if you’re visiting for the first time, Badenoch The Storylands also includes a digital tourist map with information about eating out, shops, museums and other attractions, as well as heritage sites, to make your visit all the more enjoyable.

Works offline - Download the 13 tours and audio channels featuring stories and music in advance of your trip for seamless offline functionality. Perfect if you don’t have a data package and for areas where connectivity is poor.

On any of the tours, you will be able to hear stories about places and people from prehistory to the present day: Ruthven Barracks, the Centre of Scotland Stone, Pictish Battles, Gaelic Place Names, Shinty, the River Spey, Wade’s Roads, the Black Officer, as well as poems and songs, myths and legends that have originated over the centuries.
