Mecca and Madina Online

Mecca - the holy city of all Muslims - this is the place where the prophet Muhammad was born, peace be upon him and in which the first revelations were sent. "Mother of the cities" is the name of Mecca for all the followers of Islam. The full name of this city is Al-Mecca al-Mukarrama. In Arabic, this means "Brilliant Mecca."

Mecca is perhaps the most visited city in the world. A large number of tourists and visitors to Mecca come here through the city of Jeddah, which is a kind of sea and air gateway to Mecca. An excellent 78 km motorway connects Mecca from Jeddah, located on the Red Sea, and Jeddah Airport, named after King Abd al-Aziz, connected by regular flights to almost 70 cities in the world, including such distant from Arabia as Singapore and New York. And from Cairo, for example, planes fly to Jeddah twice a day. (By the way, from Cairo to Jeddah, the plane takes only 1:00 40-45 minutes).

Mecca is currently a modern city with over a million inhabitants. At the same time, as many years ago, it is completely dedicated to Muslim shrines. The main ones are the Kaaba and Haramska mosque built around this unique structure.

Medina (Madina) is the second (after Mecca) holy city of Islam and Muslims. Previously, the city of Medina was called Yasrib, in which two Arab tribes Aus and Khazray lived. When the hostility and persecution of the Meccan merchants grew towards the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his followers, in 622 they moved to Medina. The inhabitants of Medina asked the prophet to live among them and arbitrate their affairs (the proposal was accepted in view of their refusal of polytheism and submission to the will only of God, Allah). From this moment, the Islamic era begins its reckoning.
