Located 70 km northeast of Afyonkarahisar; Amorium, which has been regarded as an important settlement in Hittite, Hellenic (Greek), Roman, Seljuk and Ottoman periods since 2000 BC, is one of the first cities in the region that was granted permission to print its own money by the Roman Senate. He was also famous as the hometown of the Mikhail Dynasty which ruled the Byzantine Empire for a time. Since 640 AD, Amorium is the headquarters of the Byzantine army in Anatolia.
