Palta Player
Generate and practice Paltas for Hindustani or Indian classical music riyaz.
About Palta Player
Palta player is a learning application designed for students and teachers of Indian classical vocal music. The application helps users generate and practice Alankaars or Paltas, which are fundamental vocal exercises used in both Hindustani and Carnatic classical music traditions.
Alankaars (Paltas) are sequential vocal patterns that span the entire Saptak (heptad). They consist of two parts: Aaroha (ascending order of notes) and Avaroha (descending order of notes). In Paltas, the same sequence of notes must be maintained in both directions. The avaroha follows the reverse order of the aaroha. These exercises play a vital role in developing pitch accuracy, voice control, and ear training for classical music learners.
Although Paltas are introduced at the early stage of music learning after the basic practice of swaras, they continue to be practiced throughout the life of a musician. Regular Palta practice forms an essential part of everyday riyaz and helps singers internalize the exact position of each swara while improving vocal precision.
This application Palta player allows users to generate Paltas based on their chosen sequence of swaras. The application provides flexibility to explore different combinations of notes and supports all twelve swara positions (7 Shuddha and 5 Vikrit swaras). The user can select the desired pitch and swara pattern, and the system automatically generates the complete alankaar covering the entire saptak. This application also provides an option to select all the notes or leave out certain notes, enabling the generation of Paltas using notes of your choice, suitable for rāga-based Palta practice. A sustain feature is also included, allowing a note to be stretched using a dash (–) so that the swara is held for a longer duration during playback.
Once generated, the application can play the alankaar in the correct sequence of aaroha and avaroha using a harmonium tone. This allows students to listen carefully and sing along, helping them place the notes correctly and develop a stronger sense of pitch.
The application also provides multiple speed levels for practice. Students can practice alankaars in four traditional speeds used in classical music training: i.e. Thah (single speed), Dugun (double speed), Tigun (triple speed), and Chaugun (quadruple speed).

Unlike many music apps that simply produce individual notes, Palta player generates structured sequences in the form of complete Paltas. This makes it a unique and powerful learning tool for systematic classical music training.
Since the application can generate and play Paltas in any pitch, it is suitable for both male and female learners across different vocal ranges.
