About Sunk Cost: What to Play

You own 65 games. You're playing none of them.

Sunk Cost is a game backlog tracker that answers one question: what should I
play tonight?

Tell it how long you've got — an hour, three hours, a whole evening — and it
gives you three games. Never a list. Each one comes with a reason.

FINISH IT
Something you could actually clear tonight, measured against how long the game
takes if you push, not the leisurely estimate.

START SOMETHING
The oldest thing you've never touched. You don't have to finish a game to start
one, so length is no object here.

WILDCARD
Anything else. Not argued for, which is the point.

────────────────────

WHY THREE, NOT A LIST

Because a list is what you already have. Steam, your shelf, that spreadsheet —
they all tell you what you own. None of them tell you what to do tonight.
Sunk Cost is a decision engine, not another library.

REAL PLAYTIMES, NOT GUESSES

Every game carries three community estimates: hastily, normally, completely.
That's how it knows a 40-hour RPG doesn't fit a Tuesday and a 6-hour indie
does. Games with no playtime data are never offered as "you could finish this
tonight" — the app would rather ask you than lie.

THE ARITHMETIC YOU'VE BEEN AVOIDING

How many games are unplayed. How many hours you already owe. How long the
oldest one has sat there. It counts, and it doesn't soften the total.

SHARE THE DAMAGE

Turn your backlog into a card worth posting: Backlog of Shame, Year in Review,
your Top 10, or the verdict on the one game you actually finished. Typographic,
no cover art, designed to survive a screenshot on Discord or X.

CAPTURE FROM ANYWHERE

Share a Steam, Epic, GOG, Nintendo, Xbox, itch.io or Humble link straight into
the app and it pulls out the game. Share a video and it keeps the title so you
can find it later. Nothing gets added silently — you confirm what it became.

────────────────────

IT WORKS OFFLINE

Your pile lives in a database on your phone. No account, no sign-in, no sync,
no cloud. The only thing that touches the network is searching for a new game
to add, and that request carries nothing but the words you typed.

WHAT'S IN IT

• Three arguments for what to play, every night
• Session lengths from one hour to a whole weekend
• Backlog, Playing, Finished and Dropped
• Hours owed, years accruing, longest sitting
• Rate and review what you finish
• Share cards for the parts worth posting
• Grid or list, sorted by shortest to finish or longest ignored
• "Not tonight" to snooze a game you keep being offered
• Dark and light themes
• No ads. No tracking. No account.

────────────────────

Sunk cost is the reason you keep buying games you don't play. This is the app
that does the maths out loud.
