🐦 Nest Protection – Practical Protection for Ground-nesting Birds

Nest Protection is a practical app for farmers, hunters, agricultural contractors, and conservationists to reliably detect, document, and protect ground-nesting bird nests during fieldwork.

The app was specifically developed for use in the field – it works offline, without a server, and with local data storage on the device.

🌱 What is the app for?

When mowing, harrowing, or cultivating fields, nests of lapwings, pheasants, ducks, partridges, curlews, and other birds are often unintentionally destroyed.

Nest Protection helps to make these nests visible and provide timely warnings.

📍 Detecting nests – flexible & precise

A nest can be detected in two ways:

📌 Using the current location of your phone
📍 Manually using coordinates, e.g., B. from a drone flight

The following information can be saved for each clutch:

Coordinates
Date
Photo
(Optional) Further information for documentation, e.g., number of eggs

🗺️ Overview & Navigation
All clutches are clearly displayed on a map.

There is also a list view for selection, editing, and management.
Collapses can be deleted or modified at any time.

🚜 Approach Warning Function
When approaching a clutch (e.g., with a tractor or machine), the app automatically warns:

The warning distance is freely adjustable:

5 m to 50 m
in 5-meter increments depending on working speed.

Warnings can be individually enabled or disabled.

🔄 Sharing & Collaboration
Easily share nests:

📤 Share individual nests (e.g., via WhatsApp or email)
📦 Save multiple nests as a package

📥 Packages can be imported directly into the app by the recipient

→ including coordinates, names, and images
This allows hunters, farmers, and agricultural contractors to work together to protect nests.

🔐 Data Privacy & Offline Use
All data is stored exclusively locally on the device.

No servers
No cloud storage
No sharing of location data
Internet access is only required for map data
