Spine — EPUB reader

Spine reads the EPUB files you already own.

It is for readers with a library — files collected over years, from
Project Gutenberg, Standard Ebooks, your own Calibre server, or a
publisher who sells you the file. Spine opens those. It has no store of
its own and nothing to sell you but itself.

REQUIRES DRM-FREE EPUB
Books from Kindle, Apple Books, Kobo or Google Play Books carry DRM.
Spine cannot open them, and no reader can. If your library is locked to
a shop, this app is not for you — better to know now than after paying.

YOUR FILES ARE NEVER AUTO-DELETED
Spine has no delete-to-optimise code path. Not a setting, not a policy —
the path does not exist, and a test in the source refuses to build if
anyone adds one. Nothing is removed to save space, ever, and nothing
expires.

READING
· Paginated or continuous scroll, and switching keeps your place
· Typography that goes deep: Literata, Georgia, OpenDyslexic, size,
line height, margins — per book or for everything
· Four page themes: Light, Sepia, Dark, Black
· Two-page spread on a wide screen
· Footnotes open where you are; your place does not move

IT REMEMBERS WHERE YOU WERE
Position is stored as a locator, not a page number, so it survives a
font change, a margin change, a rotation. Progress is shown three ways —
a stable percentage, a page number, and a time estimate that is labelled
as an estimate.

HIGHLIGHTS AND NOTES
Four colours, notes attached to any highlight, and everything exportable
to JSON and Markdown whenever you want. Export works whether or not you
have bought anything. It always will.

READ ALOUD
Your device's own voices, chosen by the language of the book — open a
Vietnamese book and it reads in a Vietnamese voice, with no setting to
change in between. Higher-quality neural voices can be downloaded inside
the app, per language, if you want them. The book is never sent anywhere
to be read: Spine refuses voices that would do the reading on someone
else's server.

BRING BOOKS IN
· Any EPUB on your device
· PDFs are converted to a real reflowable book on the way in, so
typography and read-aloud work on them too (single-column prose
converts well; multi-column layouts and tables do not, and a scanned
PDF has no text to take)
· OPDS catalogues: Project Gutenberg, Standard Ebooks, and any other
· Your own Calibre content server over your local network

NO ACCOUNT, NO SUBSCRIPTION, NO ADS
There is no sign-up because there is no server. Nothing is synced,
nothing is tracked, nothing is measured. Spine works with the network
turned off, apart from the moments you ask it to fetch something.

Five books are free, for at least 21 days — whichever of the two runs
out later. Everything is included in the free tier: no feature is held
back, nothing you added is ever locked, and export works before you buy.
When the cap does apply, unlocking costs $6.99, once, and that version
