About Sekai Kanji

Each Chinese character in Sekai Kanji appears like a rural landscape painting encapsulated in six-eight syllable verses. As soon as the memory of the scene awakens, the character will naturally come flooding back.

VERSE THAT AWAKENS THE CHARACTERS

Chinese characters are inherently difficult to grasp because they are pictographic, a form unfamiliar to us. But when you encounter Sekai Kanji, you will find it strangely familiar. This is because each character is told through a gentle six-eight syllable poem, accurately recreating the scene from which it originated. Each contributing radical is colored and skillfully interwoven into the rhythm of the poem: as the poem rises, the character appears.

For example, the character 夢 (Dream): it depicts a baby falling asleep, a pillow embroidered with flowers on the windowsill, a blanket covering half its face, and the bright moon outside the window. These four images gently combine to form the complete character "Dream."

A FILM OF CHILDHOOD THROUGH EVERY DRAWING

We reject soulless illustrations. Each character is a separate scene meticulously designed in the style of a comic book: a child perched on the back of a buffalo on the edge of a rice field, a ferry carrying people across the river, a woman weaving at her loom, or a grandmother bending over to light an incense stick.

The setting will mostly be a Vietnamese village: thatched roofs, lotus ponds in summer, carrying poles, rice mills – things that evoke a sense of familiarity at first glance.

CHARACTERS GROW IN CLUSTERS, MEMORIES CALL EACH OTHER

Instead of picking up individual characters, the Sekai Kanji character library is nurtured to grow into "clusters" with shared roots. After learning the "Body" cluster, you can name an entire group of characters related to people; A stroll through the "Heaven & Air" cluster provides a complete understanding of clouds, rain, thunder, and lightning. The characters within the same cluster illuminate each other; remembering one character naturally awakens another.

A WALK THROUGH SIX LEVELS

The learning journey begins with foundational pieces (radicals) and progresses through N5, N4, N3, N2, and N1. The level selection interface isn't a steep, arduous ladder, but rather opens up like a winding, peaceful village road, guiding you on a leisurely stroll through each stage of your memory.

A SMALL CORNER TO MARK YOUR JOURNEY

Besides the poetry and art experience, this space is equipped with everything you need:

• Smooth lookup: Easily find characters, Sino-Vietnamese pronunciations, or meanings.

• Natural Classification: Filter characters by status (not yet learned, currently learning, already learned, or characters that are still "challenging" you).

• Progress Track: Follow your learning progress through each cluster and level.

• Reviewing Memories: Characters you've already learned are automatically added to a review schedule, with gradually spaced intervals of 1, 3, 7, 16, and 35 days; review using pictures, poems, and Sino-Vietnamese pronunciation.

• Daily Series Calendar: Learning a flashcard or reviewing a sentence marks that day; consecutive series and the longest record are recorded on the calendar.

A Few Notes

To preserve the essence, the poems use Sino-Vietnamese words and ancient Vietnamese. Sometimes you'll need to slow down a bit to understand, and then you'll see how profound the Vietnamese language is.

The current library contains 2,136 characters, covering levels N5 to N1, each with a picture and a poem. Levels N5 and N4 are unlocked free of charge; levels N3 and above are unlocked with a lifetime package, a one-time purchase for unlimited use.
