Tirly

Tirly blocks distracting apps when you're near chosen friends. Pair with
someone from your contacts, choose which apps to block when they're with
you, and Tirly handles the rest — automatically, in the background.

HOW IT WORKS
• Pair with someone from your contacts via SMS or QR code.
• When your paired phones are in the same room, your chosen apps are
blocked automatically. When you're apart, the block lifts. No manual
toggling.
• Once a block is active, it's active — no bypass, no snooze, no "just
this once."
• Start a Tirly — a group commitment to spend time together, in real
life. One person hosts, friends nearby join over Bluetooth or by a
link, and every phone in it becomes a dumb phone for ten to sixty
minutes, the host's included. Calls still work, and you can leave at
any time, though everyone else will be notified.
• Blocking by schedule, location, screen time, and number of opens are
all supported.
• Tirly blocks the websites of blocked apps too. If Instagram is
blocked, so is instagram.com.

HOW TIRLY KNOWS YOU'RE IN THE SAME ROOM
Bluetooth can tell Tirly that your friend's phone is nearby, but not
whether it's in the room with you or on the other side of a wall. So when
you open a blocked app, your friend's phone plays a short, high-pitched tone, and your phone listens for it. Sound doesn't pass through walls the way Bluetooth does, and that is what tells this room from the next room.

That is the only thing Tirly uses the microphone for. The sound is checked
against a fixed pattern and discarded immediately. Nothing is recorded,
saved, or sent anywhere.

WEB BLOCKING AND THE ACCESSIBILITY SERVICE
Tirly uses Android's AccessibilityService API for one job: blocking
websites.

When you turn it on, Tirly reads only the address bar of your browser —
Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Brave, Samsung Internet, Opera, DuckDuckGo and
others — and only to do two things: block a website when you have blocked
the app it belongs to, and count time and visits on that website against a
time limit or open limit you set on that app.

Tirly reads nothing else on your screen. It keeps no browsing history and
sends nothing anywhere. On a site no rule covers, it does nothing at all.

You turn this on yourself, Tirly explains it on screen before asking, and
you can turn it off at any time in Android's Accessibility settings. Web
blocking is the only feature that uses it — everything else in Tirly works
without it.

PERMISSIONS TIRLY ASKS FOR
• Usage access and screen overlay — to see which app is open and draw the
block.
• Nearby devices and the microphone — to tell when a paired friend is in
the room, as described above.
• Location — only for rules you set to a place.
• Contacts — to find friends to pair with.
• Notifications — to tell you when a block starts or ends.
