About Fiber Color ID

Enter a fiber number, get its tube, position, color and marking. Enter what you are holding, get the fiber number. Both directions, offline, in the time it takes to pull a tube out of a closure.

Built by a working fiber optic technician for the moment you are in a handhole with a 288-count in your hands and no signal.

WHAT IT DOES

• Forward lookup — fiber number to tube, position, color and marking
• Reverse lookup — tube color and fiber color back to the fiber number
• Loose tube and ribbon construction
• Standard cable counts from 6 to 6,912, and custom counts
• Buffer tube and ribbon sizes, standard or custom
• Binder group threads, named in the answer and drawn out so you can count them
• Full color chart reference, always available

ACCURACY IS THE POINT

Past fiber 12, the repeat marking is manufacturer convention, not standard. TIA-598 stops at twelve. What happens at thirteen is up to whoever built the cable — and the guides disagree with each other.

This app does not pretend otherwise. Where conventions conflict, it names them and tells you to read the cable sheet. Your fiber number and position are always exact; the marking is reported with the honesty it deserves.

Fiber 20 of a repeated group is the clearest example. Corning MiniXtend and Prysmian both use a natural, uncolored fiber with a black dash. The FOA documents a yellow stripe on a black fiber. Both are right for the cable they describe. A calculator that picks one and stays quiet about the other is lying to you at the splice trailer.

WHEN THE CABLE DOES NOT FOLLOW THE STANDARD

Some cable does not use TIA-598 at all. A manufacturer with its own order, a country with a different one, a cable old enough that nobody publishes its color code any more.

Build the sequence yourself. Up to 13 positions including a natural uncolored fiber, named the way your crew says them, with the repeat marking set to the color that is actually printed. The app does the arithmetic off your sequence, labels every answer as yours, and the standard is one tap away.

Work a cable out once and send it to the rest of the crew as a short block of text. They paste it in and get the same definition. Nothing goes over the internet, and importing is free.

WORKS WITH NO SIGNAL

Everything runs on the phone. No account, no login, no server, no data collection. It works in a handhole, a splice trailer, a vault or a bucket truck, and it works on airplane mode. That includes sharing a color sequence — it is copy and paste, not a sync service.

FREE AND PAID

Free: loose tube, standard counts up to 144, both lookup directions, and importing a color sequence somebody else built.
Both lookup directions stay free on purpose — in real work the conversion runs both ways, and gating one breaks the tool for half its users.

One-time unlock: ribbon mode, counts above 144 up to 6,912, custom counts, custom tube sizes, and building or exporting your own color sequences. Bought once, no subscription, no renewal.

FOR

Fiber splicers, OSP technicians and engineers, fusion splicing crews, FTTH and outside plant construction, locators, inspectors, and anyone who has counted strand in the dark and wanted a second opinion.

What’s new

Version 1.5.4 · Updated October 6, 2026

New: 16-fiber MPO colors. Fibers 13–16 are Olive, Magenta, Tan and Lime, labeled as the FOA's 16-fiber MPO convention. Pick "16-fiber MPO (FOA)" under Labeled conventions. A cable with 16 per tube may mark 13–16 as repeats instead; the app says so and the cable sheet governs. Also: the four colors are in the custom color editor.
