Lookout: Light the Line

October 14, 1987. Dry lightning has taken the phone lines and the road. Every fire lookout in the Oregon Cascades has gone silent, and the fires are coming. There is one way left to tell the towns below to get out: the old beacon line, lit by hand, tower to tower.

You are the last ranger on the line. Climb each lookout, work out what its keeper left behind, and light the beacon.

100 LOOKOUTS, REAL COUNTRY
Ten districts follow the real Cascades: Sweet Home, Green Peter, Menagerie, Santiam Pass, Detroit Lake, the McKenzie River, Mount Jefferson, the Three Sisters, Silver Falls and Opal Creek, all the way to Bull of the Woods. Every tower stands on its own ground with its own view - ridges falling away at last light, lakes where the real lakes are, snow peaks on the skyline.

WORK THE ROOM
Every cab is a 3D room you walk around: desks, footlockers, wall safes, fuse boxes, the fire finder in the middle of the floor. Read what the keeper pinned up, open what was locked, and find the part the beacon is missing.
- Code locks: dates, symbols, breakers, signal lamps, compass drills, radio dials
- A new lock in every district: valve boards, knock codes, Morse, stopped clocks, rewired junctions, survey grids, bell frames, gear trains
- Hands-on puzzles: sight a bearing through the fire finder, aim the heliograph, tune the radio scope, run water through the pump lines, piece a burned map back together
- Torn pages, false leads, and towers gone dark where the lamp has to be mended before anything can be read

EASY TO START, HARD TO FINISH
The first towers walk you through it. Further down the line the clues stop handing you answers - years written back to front, riddles in the keeper's hand, settings you have to work out. Every wrong try costs you time.
