System requirements:
Ibex uses the phone's barometric pressure sensor to calculate elevation. Not all phones have this sensor. You can still load, display, and replay existing recordings without it, but you cannot get real-time information for your climb.

I may implement an external sensor if there is a demand. Please let me know if you are interested.

Accessibility Services:
You can trigger verbal status reports and other functions by pressing 'Volume' or with a Bluetooth-connected button without handling the phone. Ibex uses accessibility services to perform that function even when the screen is off as long as the app runs. Enabling accessibility services is entirely at the user's discretion, and no user data is ever obtained or logged from any accessibility service.

Accuracy:
Barometric pressure changes according to elevation, but it also drifts due to weather. This drift decreases the overall precision - especially over extended periods.

GPS doesn't drift. However, the typical vertical accuracy is ±15 meters (45 feet), which makes it unsuitable for tracking climbing elevation.

One can only calculate the straight-up distance from a pressure sensor. Therefore, Ibex has a setting to specify a route's slope and even has a rudimentary tool to measure it. The closer the entered slope is to the real one, the more accurately the app can calculate the distance climbed.

Ibex is a complex app with a lot of features. Please take the time and read the documentation to utilize its capabilities thoroughly.

* Never rely on any app to keep you safe! Always be aware of your situation while climbing.

What’s new

Version 5.06 · Updated August 1, 2026

• Climb screen draws your route as a profile — climbs and rappels side by side, with belays and stations • Laps on one route stack up, so the day's total height shows • Rope left is front and centre, with its reach drawn on the route • A red line marks where the rope no longer lowers you • Big figures you can read at arm's length on the wall • Stop recording and see the session: time, climbed, rappelled, heart rate and light left • Straighter multi-pitch tracks, anchored to your belays
