ANTIQUE OR REPRODUCTION?
Look at the parts nobody tried to make beautiful. Period furniture shows hand-cut dovetails of uneven spacing, saw marks from a pit or frame saw, and shrinkage that has taken the piece out of square. Reproductions show machine-perfect joints and boards still perfectly square.

MAKER MARKS AND HALLMARKS
Stamps, labels, foundry marks and pottery backstamps are read where visible — that is what converts a guess into an attribution.

DOES AGE MEAN VALUE?
Much less than people expect. A competent 1890s wardrobe may be worth less than a 1960s Danish teak sideboard a quarter its age. Value comes from design significance, maker, rarity and condition.
