Halloween is a festival of Druidic origin, celebrated between dusk on October 31st and November 1st, marking the beginning of winter and the New Year. During this period, the Celts postponed their daily work, and the laws of nature were suspended. Food was placed on the doorsteps of homes to offer to evil spirits; this is perhaps the origin of the "trick-or-treating" of Halloween, the children's custom of going from house to house asking for candy.
