About Cheotbureum: Korean Baby Names

Choosing the first name you will ever call them.

Cheotbureum does not read the child's chart alone. It reads the mother's and the father's too, gathers all three, and finds what the child is short of.

■ Three charts, read together
Elements are combined 50 for the child, 25 for the mother, 25 for the father. Parents' details are optional — but adding one really does change the answer, and the app shows you exactly what changed.

■ Only characters the registry accepts
For every character we tell you whether it is on the Korean Supreme Court's list for given names (revised 30 May 2024, in force 11 June 2024), and which readings may be registered. No surprises at the district office.

■ Nothing hidden in the maths
You can open up everything we weighed: the thin element, the radicals of the chosen characters, how the name sounds read aloud, the traditional stroke counts. No single score, no grade.

■ Family rules are kept
Enter a generation character and we fix that position and choose only the other. Characters from an elder's name can be set aside too — the tradition called pihwi.

■ Look up any character
Search by reading to check registrability, stroke count and radical. Find one you like, and see only the names built with it.

■ Save and compare
Keep the names you like and put two side by side. We darken only what differs — we never say which one is better.

■ Fully offline, no sign-up
Everything is calculated on your device. There is no account, and the birth details you enter are never sent to a server. Delete the app and they go with it.

■ No full-screen ads
One banner at the bottom. Nothing interrupts choosing a name.

This draws on traditional readings. There is no agreed set of rules, and different naming practices reach different results. Please confirm registrability with your local office.
