About Ham Exam Trainer: US Licence
Pass your US amateur radio licence exam.
Ham Exam Trainer carries the complete, current FCC question pools for all three licence classes — Technician, General and Amateur Extra — and drills you on them until you know them. Everything happens on your phone. There is no account, no sign-in, and no server.
WHAT YOU GET
The real question pools. Every question, every answer, exactly as released by the NCVEC Question Pool Committee, including the current errata. The app shows you which pool you are studying and when it expires, and tells you if your exam date falls after a pool changes over.
Learn it, don't just memorise it. Every one of the 1,431 questions carries a plain-language explanation of why the correct answer is correct — shown the moment you answer, especially when you get one wrong. And the Learn tab turns the whole syllabus into reading material: a short study section for every exam group, each ending in a button that drills exactly those questions.
Spaced repetition that works. The scheduler is SM-2, the algorithm behind every serious flashcard app. Questions you find hard come back sooner; questions you have nailed come back in weeks, not minutes. Your readiness meter shows the proportion of the pool you have genuinely retained — not just the proportion you have looked at once.
Mock exams built the way the real one is. A real VE exam draws one question at random from each question group in the pool. So does this. Technician and General are 35 questions passing at 26; Amateur Extra is 50 passing at 37. The timer keeps running if you switch apps or your phone locks, and you can pick a half-finished exam back up exactly where you left it.
Know exactly what went wrong. After an exam, review every question you missed — with the answer options in the same order you saw them, so you can see the mistake you actually made. Every missed question goes straight back into your review deck.
Study the way you want. Work through the syllabus topic by topic, search the whole pool by question text, answer text or question ID, flag the ones that keep catching you out, and drill just those. The schematic diagrams are included and pinch to zoom.
Watch yourself improve. Readiness over the last fortnight, accuracy, pool coverage, your study streak, time spent, and every mock exam score.
A formula sheet that fits on one screen. Ohm's law, power, decibels, wavelength and the metric prefixes. Everything the exam can ask you to calculate, and nothing else.
BUILT TO BE OWNED, NOT RENTED
One-time purchase. There is no subscription, no "pro" tier, and no upgrade prompt. You buy the app once and you have all of it.
No ads. Not a banner, not an interstitial, not a "watch a video to continue".
No tracking. The app has no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising SDK, and no third-party code of any kind that talks to a server. It collects nothing about you because it collects nothing at all.
Works offline. Not "works offline once you've synced" — genuinely offline. The Android build ships without the internet permission, so the app is technically incapable of making a network request. Study on a plane, in a basement, at a hamfest with no signal. It makes no difference.
ACCESSIBILITY
Full TalkBack support with meaningful labels throughout. Text scales to 200% without anything clipping or overlapping. No information is carried by colour alone — correct and wrong answers are marked by outline, fill and a written label. Reduce Motion is honoured everywhere.
ABOUT THE POOLS
The question pools are released into the public domain by the NCVEC Question Pool Committee. This app is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the NCVEC, the ARRL, the FCC, or any Volunteer Examiner Coordinator. It is a study aid — it does not administer exams and does not issue licences.
