About Plate Atlas - Plate Spotting
Plate Atlas is a life list for licence plates — the birdwatcher's checklist, applied to the ovals and blue bands you see on the road. Spot a plate, tap once, and watch a map of Europe fill in behind you.
THE ONE RULE
• Abroad, a sighting is the country and nothing more. A German car passes, you tap Germany, you are done.
• At home it goes one level deeper, because you already know one town from the next. Set your home country and its plates offer a second, optional step: which city or district.
• Optional means optional. Skip it and the country still counts.
LOG IT THE WAY YOU READ IT
• Search matches the name or the code on the plate. Type "pl" and Poland comes up; type "kr" while picking a Polish city and Kraków does.
• Accents are optional too — "krakow" finds Kraków, "munchen" finds München.
• Already collected? The row says so, and logging it again keeps your original date rather than overwriting it.
THE MAP
• One tile per country, laid out in roughly its real position — the shape of Europe, readable at a glance and at arm's length in a moving car.
• Collected countries fill in; your home country keeps a ring around it.
• A second layer swaps the countries for your home country's district codes.
• No basemap, no tiles to download, nothing to wait for.
WHAT IS IN THE ATLAS
• All 42 countries of continental Europe.
• District lists for the seven whose plates actually encode one — Germany, Poland, Austria, Slovakia, Croatia, Slovenia and Switzerland — 411 codes in total, covering the cities and districts you are realistically going to see. Countries whose plates are nationally issued, France and Spain among them, are country-level only, which is exactly what their plates tell you.
FIX IT AFTERWARDS
• Every entry is a switch: on adds it, off removes it. No confirmation dialog, and an undo in the toast.
• Mark a whole trip at once and back-date it, which is how anyone actually catches up after five countries in a weekend.
• The same screen handles countries and your home country's cities, with the same control.
MORE THAN ONE COLLECTOR
• Several profiles on one device, so two people sharing a car keep separate lists.
• Switching profile swaps the whole collection. No sign-in, no email address, no profile of you anywhere.
