HOW THE RULE ACTUALLY WORKS
Under the Income Tax Act, your status turns on how many days you were IN India during the financial year (1 April – 31 March). Spend 182 days or more in India and you are a resident; fewer, and you are not.
That distinction matters more than it looks. A financial year containing a leap February has 366 days — so 182 days outside India still leaves 184 days in India, and that is resident. Seatime counts days in India directly, so the verdict is right in leap and non-leap years alike.
