About Print Bridge: USB Print Server
Have a USB printer with no Wi-Fi? Print Bridge shares it with your whole home or office.
Plug the printer into an Android phone, tablet or TV. Every phone, tablet and computer on the same Wi-Fi can then print to it, using the printing already built into iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows and Mac. No drivers and no extra apps on those devices.
HOW IT WORKS
1. Install Print Bridge on the Android device that will stay next to the printer.
2. Connect the printer's USB cable to that device. A phone or tablet usually needs a small USB OTG adapter.
3. Follow the setup. It takes about two minutes and ends with a test page.
4. On any other device on your Wi-Fi, open Print as usual and choose your printer by name.
WHAT YOU GET
• A guided setup that finds the printer, gets it ready and prints a test page
• A list of recent jobs showing which device sent each one and whether it printed
• A small web page on your own network for checking the printer or changing settings from any browser. You can protect it with a password
• Printing that stays available in the background and starts again when the device restarts
• Works on Android TV with the remote, so a TV box that is always on can share the printer
PRINTERS
The developer has seen Print Bridge print on real HP LaserJet 1018 and 1020 printers. No other printer has been tested on real hardware yet.
It is designed for these as well, untested so far:
• HP LaserJet 1022, M1319, P2035 and the Pro P1102 family
• HP LaserJet P1005, P1006, P1505 and P2014 family
• Recent HP LaserJets that accept PCLm, such as the M15, M28, M110 and M140
• Canon LBP2900, LBP3000, LBP3010, LBP3100, LBP6000
• Epson L120, L130, L210 and L310
• Printers that understand PCL 5
HONEST ABOUT YOUR PRINTER
We can't promise that a particular printer will work, and the app doesn't pretend. On a printer it has not been proven on, it prints a test page and asks: did a page come out? If not, it switches to another way of printing and offers another test page. When nothing is left to try, it says so.
If your printer is not listed but is related to one that is, such as another Epson inkjet, the app explains that printing is a guess and offers "Try printing anyway". If you share diagnostics, it tells us the model and what was tried, so we know what to work on next.
GOOD TO KNOW
• Pages print in black and white.
• The Android device needs a USB port that accepts accessories (USB host, or OTG). Most phones, tablets and TV boxes have one.
• The Android device has to stay switched on, connected to the printer, and on the same Wi-Fi as the devices that print.
• Android asks you to allow Print Bridge to use the USB printer, on some devices again after a restart.
• Some older HP LaserJets need a small firmware file each time they are switched on. Print Bridge downloads it once from the internet and sends it to the printer for you.
• The app's screens are in English.
PRIVACY
The documents you print are never sent to us. They go from your devices to your printer over your own network.
During setup the app asks whether you want to help improve it, and it sends nothing until you answer. If you say yes, it sends the developer a technical log that includes the printer model and the Android device model. Names of documents and people, network addresses and error texts are never in the copy of the log that is sent. Crash reports and usage statistics go to Google's Firebase service, also only if you said yes.
