About Magic Hat

Magic Hat is a data contribution platform that collects first-person video of everyday manual tasks to build training datasets for computer vision and robotics research. Approved contributors record short, task-based sessions using a wearable camera we provide, and receive compensation for each approved hour of footage.

How contributions work:

Apply — Complete a short application with identity verification via Aadhaar OTP or PAN and a brief internet speed check. Approval typically takes a few days.

Receive your kit — Approved contributors receive a Gig Camera device on loan, shipped at no cost. The device remains Gig Camera's property and is returnable if you leave the platform. The app guides you through setup.

Record assigned task types — Wear the camera while performing specific everyday manual activities such as cooking, workshop tasks, farming, crafting, or shopping. Recordings capture your hands and workspace from a first-person perspective. You control when the camera is on and can pause or stop at any time.

Upload for review — Submit recordings through the app. Our team reviews each hour against task guidelines for quality, relevance, and privacy compliance.

Get compensated — Approved hours are compensated at published rates. Payouts are sent directly to your registered bank account on a daily cycle.

Contributor referrals — Invite others who may be interested in contributing.
When a referred contributor completes their first approved hour, both of you receive a one-time referral bonus.

Settings — Manage bank account details, view your signed contributor agreement, and control your account

Notifications — Receive updates on payout confirmations, submission results, and account activity

Privacy and third parties
Contributors are instructed to record only their own hands and workspace. Task guidelines prohibit recording identifiable third parties, children, private conversations, or private spaces of others without consent. Our review process flags and rejects footage that does not meet these privacy standards. Contributors can request deletion of their account and associated data at any time through the app.
