This app is a collection of simulations that lets you experience "cellular automata."

A cellular automaton is a computational model in which cells arranged in a grid change their state according to simple rules. Its appeal lies in the fact that surprisingly complex and beautiful patterns can be generated from simple rules.

"Cell Lab" includes five different modes:

■ Brian's Brain (3-state automaton)
A dynamic, rainbow-colored pattern that moves actively like nerve cells.

■ Wireworld (electronic circuit simulation)
A full-fledged simulation where you can create logic gates and counters by drawing conductors and flowing electrons.

■ Langton's Ant
A famous and mysterious algorithm where ants, moving according to simple rules, suddenly start building a "highway" after about 10,000 steps.

■ Rock-Paper-Scissors CA
Red, blue, and green cells knock each other down in a rock-paper-scissors relationship, naturally generating spiral and wave patterns.

■ Generations (Expanded Game of Life)
Adds the concept of "lifespan" to the Game of Life. Decaying cells create vibrant patterns.

Each mode includes a help function, allowing you to check rules and controls at any time. Adjusting parameters such as speed and grid size to find your own unique patterns is one way to enjoy the game.
