Dayan in Chinese translates to “Big Wild Goose”, the animal that is the inspiration for the system. It originated in the Kunlun Mountains during the Eastern Jin Dynasty. Dao’an (312-385 ad) was a Buddhist monk, author, and bibliographer, during this time and is believed to be the founder and the person responsible for providing the philosophy for the training.
