These lines of Mahadevi Varma echo the readiness and enthusiasm of our security forces who are battling in the chilling winter of Siachen, torrid sands of Jaisalmer, deep forests of Assam, swamps of the Sundarbans, and depths of Pacific and the Indian Ocean. Every day of the year and every minute of the day someone is standing watchful in these extreme conditions, without fatigue, without complaining, and without the facilities that come easy to us.

Dear brothers and sisters, even in such adverse conditions, every soldier stands alert in front of every crisis facing the nation to ensure the nations safety. Border Security Force, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police, the CISF, the CRPF, the Assam Rifles, and the NSG are working side by side with our main armed forces. Aside from securing our borders, they are dealing with situations such as natural disasters, earthquakes, riots, Naxal-affected areas and terrorist attacks within the country, and on occasion, make supreme sacrifices without any hindrance.

Brothers and sisters, the "nation" for which a soldier or a young man of the security force gladly makes supreme sacrifice, that "nation" is not merely a map made on paper, a flag made of some color, a part of the earth or a chapter of geography. A nation is a birthplace, the land of work, and the soul and self-pride of those who live there. The pride for which a soldier embraces martyrdom.
