For use while incarcerated, as well as after returning home, the Recharge Beyond the Bars Game has helped tens of thousands of individuals and families to build trust, strong bonds, and to create pathways for connection and healing. Recharge is purposefully designed to reduce the social, emotional and communication struggles of incarcerated and formerly incarcerated men and women, while empowering connection, lowering of defenses, full self-expression, positive communication and sharing with families, friends and loved ones, as well as peer to peer while incarcerated.

Communication in a safe environment is extremely important for mental health. In environments such as correctional facilities it is markedly difficult to accomplish. For both currently and formerly incarcerated individuals open, honest communication can be exceedingly problematic. These individuals may have been uncommunicative for years out of necessity. In situations, when communication is necessary what gets conveyed is often superficial and limited. This interruption in the ability to communicate thoughts, feelings and beliefs results in a sense of profound isolation, alienation, depression and exclusion.

We know that family members of those impacted by the criminal justice system also suffer in silence. We created Recharge to provide a safe, structured, healing space for families impacted by incarceration to come together, connect, and to have deeply meaningful and transformative conversations to help them to move forward together.

Through thoughtfully designed questions and interactions, Recharge players process their incarceration and life experiences together, hear one another’s perspectives on important experiences and issues, find solace and joy in interacting, find belonging, connection and understanding, are heard, seen and supported for who they really are, feel acknowledged and valued, and find connection with other people and peace with their struggles.

Recharge Beyond the Bars Game is available for people to play in the privacy of their own homes to heal together with family members, loved ones and friends! For those whose lives have been filled with punishment and rejection, Recharge offers a new experience of acceptance, and validation and builds bridges back home.
