About Firefighter Tracking
Firefighter Tracking with FireAppX Tracking — a live common operating picture when you lose sight of your units.
Night woodland. Fire across several slopes. Storm damage at many addresses. Command can no longer see crews or vehicles. Firefighter Tracking puts positions on one shared map. Every report shows its age — a stale fix never looks current.
WHY IT MATTERS
• Overview when radio alone is not enough
• Less guessing about who is where
• Faster SOS context: bearing and distance to the unit
• One map for IC, command support, observers, and units — not parallel pictures
• Less duplicate effort between vehicle, crew, and command
BUILT FOR
• Vegetation fire — crews without line of sight, moving front
• Search — searched ground only counts when you know who covered where
• Mutual aid / disaster response — many units, often several brigades, large area
• Storm / environmental jobs — pumping at many addresses, parallel runs
EXPLICITLY NOT
• Interior attack, inside buildings, floors — there is no GPS there
• Not a substitute for radio, reporting chains, or your own size-up
• Not alerting — it does not raise an alarm
• Not a personnel tool outside an incident
WHAT FIREAPPX TRACKING DOES
• Shared map for vehicles, crews, and incident command
• Age of every position visible
• Unit SOS to IC, command support, observers, and the nearest three units (crew or vehicle) — with bearing and distance. Observers receive SOS; they do not send it.
• Join via QR code or incident PIN — in seconds, no separate app account
• Command PIN for IC, command support, and observers
• LoRaWAN trackers where there is no mobile coverage (on-site gateway required)
• Each brigade has its own space — other brigades’ data stay invisible
• Catch-up when connectivity returns — the trail on the map stays time-correct
ROLES (short)
• IC (EL) — accountable on scene
• Command support (ELtg) — supports the IC
• Observer (Beobachter) — same map view as IC/ELtg; receives SOS; does not send SOS, assignments, or requests
• Brigade commander is not an in-app incident role
PLATFORMS
• Android app (this listing)
• Windows app
• Browser on phone, tablet, computer
• Native iOS app internal in TestFlight; without TestFlight the iPhone still uses the browser
GET STARTED
The brigade signs up on tracking.fireappx.com. On the device: nothing to install as a server. Exception: LoRaWAN needs a gateway on site.
COST
Free. No licence. No per-vehicle fee. No trial. No ads. Donations optional — features stay the same.
PRIVACY (short)
Location only while a device is signed into an incident. Sign-out ends tracking. Servers in Germany (Hetzner). HTTPS. Map tiles via our own server — tile providers never see the devices. No ad network, no third-party pixels.
FireAppX Tracking is the product behind the store name Firefighter Tracking. Built in Austria by an active firefighter. Documented in use at Freiwillige Feuerwehr Siegendorf, Burgenland.
