About Der Brecht Weg
Welcome to the Brecht city of Augsburg.
The app “The Brecht Path” leads to 8 stations in the life of Bertolt Brecht and shows what special connection Brecht has to the city of Augsburg.
The poet and playwright Bert Brecht was born on February 10, 1898 in a small craftsman's house not far from the historic town hall, in the so-called Lechviertel.
He spent his entire childhood and youth in Augsburg. The First World War forced him to take a secondary school diploma. He then enrolled at the University of Munich for medicine and natural sciences. However, his passion was always literature. Brecht, along with Thomas Mann and Franz Kafka, is one of the most widely read German writers of the 20th century. Some of Brecht's most famous poems were written during his time in Augsburg.
His literary legacy includes 2,300 poems, 200 short stories, 48 plays, numerous philosophical and theoretical treatises, letters and scripts. Entertaining videos with several protagonists, supplemented by historical images, provide information at the individual stations about the sights and the connection to Bert Brecht.
The tour through Augsburg begins on the town hall square, where Bert Brecht “personally” welcomes the guests. Further stops include “Gablers Taverne”, the Barfüßer Church, Brecht's birthplace, a detour into the world of theater, the house “Bei den 7 Kindeln”, Brecht and his wives as well as a visit to his parents' house number 3 and the nearby Augsburg boat trip.
With the app you can easily navigate to the individual locations. Let yourself be surprised.
