Ice Golden Fish

Ice Golden Fish is a celestial-navigation practice 🏋️ station. Shoot star altitudes through a hand-drawn sextant view, reduce each sight using the classic intercept method, and plot the resulting position fix on a chart 📊 with scale rings and lines of position. Every session ⏱️ starts by declaring an assumed position, a UTC date and time, your eye height and the sextant's index error ❌, then the app simulates the night sky above that position for you to work from.

Swing the instrument with a drag ✋ gesture, bring your chosen star down to the horizon with a custom micrometer drum, and mark the sight. Marked sights land in a log 📝 and reduce step by step through dip, refraction, index error ❌, GHA and LHA, computed altitude and azimuth, and finally the intercept itself, all shown on a full worksheet so you can see 👀 exactly how the numbers add up. Take several sights and the app intersects the resulting lines of position into a fix.

Beyond free 🆓 practice 🏋️, a training course of twelve progressively unlocked drills tests three-star fixes, altitude-correction arithmetic, worksheet reduction and star identification, each scored against your own accuracy settings and tracked with a running stats chart 📊 and a badge grid. A 32-star navigational almanac with a searchable catalog and a live sky chart, plus eight reference sections walking through the whole method, round out Ice Golden Fish as a place to actually learn 📖 celestial navigation rather than just play with numbers.
