About DribbleBeat: Dribble Metronome
A metronome that keeps the beat while you pound the ball.
The hard part of dribbling practice is not going faster. It is staying steady. Practicing alone, the tempo drifts without you noticing, speeding up and slowing down. Put the beat in your ears and your hands settle onto it.
■ 40 to 240 BPM, set by hand
Drag the large dial to set the tempo. Tap the center to type an exact number, or tap along with the rhythm and tap tempo picks up the speed you played.
Save the speeds you use often as presets and recall them in one tap. Basic dribble 120, control dribble 90, speed dribble 160 and pound dribble 180 are there from the start.
Choose 2/4, 3/4 or 4/4. The downbeat sounds stronger than the rest, so you never lose the top of the bar.
■ Sounds that carry in a gym
Four click sounds: click, woodblock, beep and a spoken voice count. Counting one, two, three, four out loud lets you take your eyes off the screen.
Downbeat and offbeat volumes are separate, so on a noisy court you can raise just the first beat. Where you cannot make noise, turn on the haptic pulse for a short buzz on every beat. The background pulses along with the beat as well.
■ Build practice into drill routines
Chain prep, drill and rest steps into one routine. Each step gets its own duration and BPM, and the set repeats as many times as you choose. The prep step runs only once, at the very start.
Six routines are built in.
Basic dribble, 120 BPM, 60 seconds, 3 sets
Crossover, 100 BPM, 60 seconds, 4 sets
Between the legs, 100 BPM, 45 seconds, 4 sets
Behind the back, 90 BPM, 45 seconds, 4 sets
Speed dribble, 160 BPM, 30 seconds, 5 sets
Pound dribble, 180 BPM, 30 seconds, 5 sets
Use them as they are, duplicate one and adjust it to your body, or build a new routine from scratch.
While a routine runs, the time left and the next step show large on screen, and a voice calls out get ready, go, rest and done as the steps change. You know what comes next without looking up from the ball.
■ Keeps playing with the screen off
Stand the phone up or drop it in your pocket and the beat carries on. Stop it straight from the notification, or when you do want to watch the screen, keep it awake while the metronome plays.
■ Practice that adds up
Finished routines and metronome sessions are logged by date. See how long you went today and how many times you got out this week. Clear the log whenever you like.
■ So you do not forget
Get a daily nudge to practice at a time you choose. Change the time whenever you want.
