About BasketballFit: Hoops Fitness

Five minutes on the court and your game becomes a number.

BasketballFit breaks the fitness and skills basketball asks for into five tests and shows you how those numbers move. No special equipment needed: a ball, a court and your phone are enough.

■ The five tests

• Vertical jump
Enter your standing reach against a wall and the height you touch on the jump, and the app works out your leap. Both cm and inches are supported.

• Sprint
Time yourself from the baseline to the far end and back. Tap start, get a 3 second countdown, then put the phone down and run.

• Side step agility
Shuttle between two lines about 1 m apart for 20 seconds. Tap the screen each time you cross a line and the count is saved along with the time remaining.

• Shooting accuracy
Enter attempts and makes from the free throw line or any spot you like, and your percentage is calculated. There is also a button for counting shot by shot.

• Dribble endurance
Count your dribbles for 30 seconds. Tap the screen every time the ball hits the floor.

■ What your records show you

• Personal best alerts
When you set a new record the app tells you on the spot and shows how much you beat the old one by.

• Trend charts
Every test gets a line chart of your recent results. New personal bests are marked, so you can see exactly when things improved.

• Overall report
A pentagon chart shows how balanced your five results are, plus an overall score scaled against amateur benchmarks. It points out your strongest test and the one that needs work, so deciding what to practice next is easy.

• Record list per test
See your best, your average and your latest result together, and look back over every session you have logged.

■ Easy to live with

• No account, no sign in. Install it and start measuring.
• Your results stay on the device and are not sent to any server of ours. If you have Android Backup turned on, they may be backed up to your own Google account.
• Measuring itself works without an internet connection.
• Choose cm or inches for length.
• Countdown sounds and vibration feedback can each be turned off.
• Light and dark themes, or just follow the system setting.
• Get one reminder a day at a time you choose.

■ Remove ads

One purchase removes every ad in the app for good. It is not a subscription. Changed phones or reinstalled? Tap restore purchases in settings.

■ Who it is for

• Anyone who wants proof that practice is paying off
• Teams and clubs that need a simple fitness benchmark
• Players checking themselves before a tryout or a test
• Anyone training alone who wants targets to aim at

■ Notes

Results vary with the court surface, your shoes and whether someone is counting with you. Repeat the tests under the same conditions to see change more clearly. This does not replace official testing or any medical examination.

Warm up properly, and do not push it on days when you are not feeling well.
