About Anderlecht

Royal Sporting Club Anderlecht is a Belgian football club from the municipality of Anderlecht in the Brussels-Capital Region. It was founded on May 27, 1908 and disputes the Belgian First Division. They are the team with the most titles in the Belgian league, with 34, obtaining the last one in 2017. It is also, together with RKV Mechelen, the only Belgian team that has won European titles: two European Cup Winners' Cup titles (1976 and 1978), two European Super Cup titles (1976 and 1978) and one UEFA Cup (1983). The traditional colors of the club are purple and white.

Founded in 1908, the club reached the highest level in Belgian football for the first time in the 1921-22 season and chained several promotions and relegations until 1935, the year in which it settled in the first division. They won their first major title after the Second World War with the 1946-47 league championship. Since then, he has never finished outside the top six of the Belgian first division. The club's golden era took place during the 1980s, when it managed to proclaim itself the UEFA Cup champion in 1983 against SL Benfica. In 1982 and 1986 he reached the semifinals of the European Cup and in 1984 he could not re-publish his second consecutive UEFA Cup by losing in the final to Tottenham Hotspur in the penalty shootout. It is rated as 12.º among all the UEFA competitions champion clubs and was recognized as the 10th.° best team of the twentieth century according to the IFFHS.

Anderlecht played its matches at Astridpark in the municipality of Anderlecht since 1917, but it was rebuilt in 1983 at its current venue, the Constant Vanden Stock Stadium and replaced the old Emile Versé Stadium. The club maintains a great rivalry with Club Brugge and Standard Liege and previously with the now defunct RWDM Brussels FC.
