About ASL Sign Language Dictionary

Sign Language teaches American Sign Language (ASL) — the 26-letter fingerspelling alphabet plus 102 everyday signs across nine categories — through clear written descriptions of every hand-shape, reviewed with spaced repetition until they actually stick. This app has no video and no illustrations: every sign is a short, plain-language description of the hand-shape, the movement, and where it sits on your body, written so you can read it once and reproduce it with your own hands.

Sign languages are not one universal language. ASL is its own language with its own grammar, distinct from British Sign Language, Turkish Sign Language, or any other national sign language. This app teaches ASL specifically — the sign language used across the United States and Canada.

HOW IT WORKS
Open the Learn tab and work through structured units, or jump straight to a word in the searchable Dictionary. Tap any sign to read exactly how to form it — hand-shape, movement, and placement — then self-grade it "Got it" or "Still learning." A spaced-repetition scheduler decides when each sign comes back: hardest signs return sooner, known signs return later. A daily streak and an optional reminder keep the habit visible.

WHAT YOU CAN DO
• Read all 102 signs, free — the complete fingerspelling alphabet (A–Z) plus vocabulary across greetings, family & friends, feelings, food & drink, numbers, colors, daily phrases, and questions
• Every entry is a written, step-by-step description of the hand-shape, the movement, and where it's formed — text you follow with your own hands, not a video to watch
• Flashcard-style spaced-repetition review, a daily streak, and a "due today" queue
• A searchable Dictionary with category filters across the full 102-sign set
• Quick quiz mode — match the written hand-shape description to the correct word
• AI Coach — describe two signs you keep mixing up (say, "Mother" vs. "Father") for a written breakdown of what's different, or ask for a learning path based on your goal and level; a text coach, no camera involved
• A per-category progress view: signs mastered, signs reviewed, streak history
• Works fully offline — the entire glossary is bundled in the app
• No account required — start as a guest; your progress stays on your device

WHAT'S FREE, WHAT PRO ADDS
The Dictionary is entirely free: read the written description of every one of the 102 signs, any time. Free also includes spaced-repetition review and quizzing on the Alphabet A–I and Greetings units, your full progress history, and three AI Coach questions a month.
Pro extends spaced-repetition review and quizzing to all 102 signs, lets you focus a session on one category, gives unlimited AI Coach questions, and removes ads.

WHO IT'S FOR
• Someone with a Deaf family member, coworker, or friend who wants a proper greeting
• A parent whose child is starting ASL and wants to learn alongside them
• Anyone who wants to fingerspell their own name without hesitating
• ASL students who want real spaced repetition, not a word list read once and forgotten

Your first session is the whole idea in miniature: read how to sign "Hello," do it with your hand, mark it reviewed, and your streak starts at one. Come back the next day and the app already knows which signs need another look — that's what makes 102 signs stay learned instead of fading.

Sign Language Pro is a monthly or annual auto-renewing subscription. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled; manage or cancel any time in your device's account settings. Pricing is shown in the app before you subscribe.
