About Kiln Log: Pottery & Ceramics

Kiln Log is a pottery and ceramics tracker for potters who want one place for every piece, every glaze recipe and every firing — a clay journal that follows a pot from the wheel or the hand-building table through bisque, glazing and the finished shelf. Pieces, recipes and firings stay linked, so you look things up instead of trying to remember.

YOUR PIECES
• A card for every piece: form (bowl, mug, plate, vase, jar or your own), clay body, dimensions and a photo kept on your device
• Stage tracking: greenware → bisque → glazed → finished, with a filter per stage
• Drying estimates for plastic, leather-hard and bone dry, from wall thickness and how the piece is covered

GLAZE RECIPES
• Ingredients with percentages, target cone, finish (matte, satin, glossy or crackle) and notes
• Unity formula (UMF) view with the usual ranges for your cone, from published material analyses — a guide to melt and fit, not a lab result
• Batch calculator in grams, kilograms or pounds, with a tick list as you weigh
• Material order: every recipe you flag to mix, added up per material
• Test tiles: one recipe, one clay body, one cone, one thickness
• Layering notes: what one recipe does over another, with a hint when the pair is likely to move

FIRINGS AND KILNS
• Firing schedules: kiln, target cone and every ramp, hold and cool segment, plus the pieces in the load
• Log results when you unload: what came out right, what crawled, what pinholed
• Kiln load plan, shelf by shelf
• Firing day: tap to timestamp controller readings during the climb
• Witness cones: record how each cone pack bent and see how your kiln really fires
• Cone chart in °F and °C at two heating rates
• My Studio: profiles for the clay bodies and kilns you use
• Reminders from your own records — a cool-down, a drying window, a batch you mixed
• Studio recap of what you made and fired over a period

AI HELP, WHEN YOU ASK
• Advisor: ratio notes on a recipe, a suggested firing curve for a clay body and cone, or troubleshooting for a defect
• Defect diagnosis: the app first ranks likely causes from the piece's clay body, glaze chemistry and firing record, then you can ask for an AI reading
• Glaze Defect Scanner (Pro): give it a link to a photo of a fired piece to look for defects such as pinholing, crazing or shivering
Nothing goes to an AI service until you agree on a consent screen that lists exactly what is sent. You can switch AI off in Settings.

WHAT'S FREE
• Unlimited pieces, recipes, test tiles and firing records
• Every tracker, calculator and chart above
• 8 AI runs a month (advisor and diagnosis), plus up to 3 more by watching a short ad
• The free version shows ads: banners on the main lists and an occasional full-screen ad after saving

WHAT PRO ADDS
• Unlimited advisor and diagnosis runs
• Glaze Defect Scanner
• Backup and restore of your records to your account
• No ads
Pro is a monthly or yearly subscription through Google Play; the price is shown in the app before you buy. It renews automatically until you cancel in Google Play → Subscriptions.

YOUR DATA
Your pottery journal is stored on your device. Signing in (Google or email) is optional; it lets you find a Pro backup again after a reinstall. AI requests carry only what you typed or picked on that screen and go through OpenRouter to the model in use. The app uses Firebase (sign-in, analytics), RevenueCat (subscriptions) and Google AdMob (ads in the free version).

SAFETY
Recipe numbers, firing curves and AI answers are general studio guidance, not a lab test, and Kiln Log never tells you a glaze is food-safe — only a lab leach test can. Fire test tiles before a full batch and follow your kiln manual. A short Kiln & Studio Safety page (ventilation, silica dust, hot ware) is in Settings.

For wheel throwers, hand-builders and community studio potters. In 10 languages, light and dark themes. Not affiliated with any kiln, clay or ceramics supplier.
